New Delhi, - At least 16 people were killed Sunday and 50 injured when the truck they were travelling in overturned on a curve and hit a barrier on the side of the road, police in the north-eastern Indian state of Meghalaya said.
Several of the estimated 70 people riding on the open truck were flung into a gorge along the barrier near Nongspung village, A police official told reporters.
All the dead and injured belonged to three villages in the area and were going to another village.
"Initial investigations indicate the accident was caused by rash driving," added the source. (QNA)
