Amman, Minister of Water and Irrigation and head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation In Jordan on Tuesday, signed a $25-million agreement and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for 2019 to rehabilitate infrastructure at host communities of Syrian refugees.
Minister of Water and Irrigation Raed Abu Al-Saud said that plans of the ministry's and water authority focus on addressing the exceptional circumstances in the Kingdom as a result of the presence of hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees.
He said cooperation with international organizations, donors and the ICRC aims to improve the quality and quantity of potable water, preserve available water resources and reconstruction of major distribution networks.
The head of the ICRC delegation said that the Red Cross seeks to ensure the provision of clean water in conflict areas to create a sustainable living environment, stressing that the ICRC will expand its efforts in Jordan to meet the needs of Jordanian citizens and refugees as Jordan is one of the poorest countries in terms of water.
