5.2 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Papua New Guinea

An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale struck the Angoram region in Papua New Guinea on Tuesday.

According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter of the quake was 104km southeast of Angoram, at a depth of 9 km.

There have been no reports of human losses or material damage due to the earthquake.

Papua New Guinea is located along the Pacific Ring of Fire which is characterized by high activity of earthquakes and volcanoes. The region includes 90% of the active volcanoes in the world. In Feb. 2018, a devastating earthquake hit the region, killing at least 100 people and causing landslides that buried dozens of villages.
