Amman, A 6.1-magnitude earthquake on Sunday hit far west of Panama near Costa Rica border, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported.

It added that the earthquake was centered seven kilometers southeast of the town of Plaza de Caisan at a depth of 37km, about five km from the town of Santa Cruz.

There was no tsunami alert issued from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, and USGS said there was a low likelihood of casualties and damage.
