60K Covid-hit households to receive cash transfers Tuesday

The National Aid Fund (NAF), the government’s social assistance arm, started Tuesday the disbursement of cash transfers to about 60,000 families under Takaful 3, a national solidarity program that targets households hardest hit by the fallout from the Covid-19 pandemic.

NAF Director-General Omar Mashaqbeh told Petra that the 60,000 households were added to 100,000 families originally targeted by the scheme following a recent government decision to expand beneficiary access. The total number of beneficiary households now stands at 160,000.

He indicated that the 9-month cash assistance, which started in April, will run through the end of the current year, noting that today’s payment will be for the months of April and May.

According to Mashaqbeh, the cost of adding those 60,000 households to the scheme is estimated at JD50 million, brining the total cost of the program to JD150 million.
