ACI official, Angolan envoy discuss economic cooperation

Vice President of the Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI) Ahmad Khudari on Saturday discussed with Angola’s non-resident ambassador Nelson Cosme ways to lay the ground for a strong economic relationship between the Kingdom and the southern African nation.

They indicated that the absence of a direct air or sea line between the countries and a permanent Angolan embassy in Amman are the main hurdles to closer bilateral economic cooperation. They agreed to conduct an in-depth study to upgrade ties and prepare for reciprocal trade delegations in the third quarter of the current year.

According to an ACI statement, Khudari told the Angolan ambassador that trade agreements between African countries, especially the Organization of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), curtail trade exchange between Jordan and non-Arab African countries due to high customs duties and transportation difficulties.

In turn, Ambassador Cosme pledged that his country will work to overcome any difficulties that might face Jordanian manufacturers and investors wishing to enter into partnerships with Angolan counterparts, proposing to organize a visit for a Jordanian economic delegation to Angola.
