Doha, – Qatari racer Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah won Friday the Qatar Cross-Country Rally, the fourth round of FIA Cross Country Rally World Cup, after the conclusion of the fifth round of the race.
It is the fourth time that Al Attiyah wins the race since its inclusion in the international calendar. It is the fifth time in the Qatari racer’s career. Al Attiyah won the rally in 2012, 2014, 2015, and in 2016. Al Attiyah missed out on the title in 2013, when France’s Jean-Louis Schlesser took first place.
Today’s win is the second in the FIA Cross Country Rally World Cup, after he won Dubai International Baja earlier this year. Al Attiyah did not feature in this year’s Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, withdrawing on the final day despite being in the lead.
The Qatari racer began the final round in third place based on his position in the fourth round, behind Sheikh Khalid Al Qassimi. Al Attiyah managed to finish the round in second place, 02:19 minutes behind Poland’s Jakub Przygonski. The latter ended up in second place in the overall standings, 07:02 minutes behind Al Attiyah.
