Al-Hamli meets with Regional Director of WFP & her accompanying delegation

Ibrahim Al-Hamli, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and International Cooperation, met today with Corinne Fleischer, the Regional Director of the World Food Program for the Middle East and North Africa, and her accompanying delegation, who is currently visiting Yemen.

During the meeting, they discussed aspects of cooperation between Yemen and the program in the humanitarian field, and the human suffering experienced by the Yemeni people as a result of the aggression, blockade and their repercussions, and the systematic starvation practiced by the aggression countries.

In the meeting, Al-Hamli reviewed the growing challenges and needs of the Yemeni people in light of eight years of aggression and siege, the need to continue supporting vital sectors directly related to the citizens’ lives, and focusing on supporting sustainability in the projects that are supported.

The Secretary-General of the Humanitarian Affairs Council called on the WFP to intensify its efforts to increase humanitarian assistance to the affected, appreciating the Humanitarian Food Program role in supporting the Yemeni people and contributing to alleviating the suffering of their children and their great tragedy as a result of the aggression and siege.

Al-Hamli pointed out the Council’s keenness to ensure that aid reaches who deserve it, by providing the necessary facilities and working to alleviate the suffering of the displaced and affected people.

He expressed the hope that the delegation’s visit would contribute to strengthening and expanding the volume of support, attribution to various areas of priority need, and to contribute to alleviating the suffering of more than 20 million people affected by the aggression and the comprehensive blockade in various aspects of life.

The Secretary-General of the Humanitarian Affairs Council also affirmed the Council’s keenness to strengthen partnership with various UN and international humanitarian organizations and to address any problems or obstacles that may hinder their activities.

In turn, Fleischer confirmed the program’s keenness to provide possible assistance to the Yemeni people who are going through unprecedented suffering.

She drew attention to the keenness to redouble efforts and to call on the world, especially donor countries, to increase their support for WFP in Yemen, stressing that ending the human suffering in Yemen can only come through peaceful means, not war.
