Doha- Al Kharatiyat SC reached the quarter-finals of HH the Emir Cup, beating Al Ahli 4-2 from the spot in a thrilling encounter that took place Friday at Grand Hamad Stadium.
The match ended 3-3 after 90 minutes and Al Kharatiyat recorded an astonishing comeback from 3-0 down. Christian Maidana opened the scoring in the 18th minute for Al Ahli. Yassine Chikhaoui doubled his team’s lead in the 33rd minute and the first half ended 2-0. Then ten minutes into the second half, Ali Ferydoon scored Al Ahli’s third goal and the game looked set to be done and dusted.
The 61st minute however would see the start of a phenomenal comeback as Anouar Diba pulled one back for his team. Then 16 minutes later, Diba brought the deficit down to one after converting a penalty kick. With Al Ahli holding onto their lead by their finger nails in the 90th minute, Brazilian defender Domingos scored a third for Al Kharatiyat to send the game to extra time.
Al Kharatiyat ensured they completed the comeback from the spot as Al Ahli missed two penalty kicks.
