Doha, – Al Rayyan, Al Qiyadah, El Jaish and Lekhwiya have all reached the semifinal of HH the Emir’s Cup in handball after beating Al Ahli, Al Sadd, Qatar and Al Gharafa respectively in the quarterfinal matches that took place Tuesday at Duhail Sports Hall.
Al Rayyan were the first side to secure their place in the semifinals after beating Al Ahli 28-22 in a match Al Rayyan dominated and ended its first half five goals ahead on 15-10. Al Ahli improved in the second half but the gap was too much for them to turn around as Al Rayyan aimed to save their season after finishing third in the league and exiting Qatar Cup in the semifinal stage.
Al Qiyadah qualified for the semifinal thanks to a hard-fought 34-33 win over Al Sadd. The match ended 30-30 as the two teams had to decide the tilt in extra time. The first half ended 19-17 to Al Qiyada but Al Sadd managed to come back in the second half to force extra time.
Meanwhile, El Jaish overcame Qatar 32-28 after coming back from behind, having lost the first half 17-15. El Jaish’s win means they are one step closer to retaining the title that they won in the previous three editions.
Lekhwiya completed the line-up of the semifinal stage of HH the Emir’s Cup after dominating Al Gharafa 31-22 in a match Lekhwiya commanded throughout as they finished 14-11 ahead in the first half before taking the lead to the second half and widening the gap to end the match nine goals in front.
Al Rayyan will take on Lekhwiya while El Jaish will face Al Qiyadah in the two semifinal ties on Friday, with the final scheduled for Sunday. (QNA)
