Al-Sudani inaugurates the first phase of projects to develop gas units operating in 8 power stations in Baghdad and the provinces

Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani inaugurated today, Sunday,, via a video link in the Ministry of Electricity building, the first phase of projects to develop and raise the efficiency of operating gas units, by operating 40 systems to cool the air entering the gas generating units in eight power stations in Baghdad and the provinces. It was equipped according to the contracts concluded with the German company Siemens, and the implementation was carried out by the General Company for Electric Power Production / Central Region.

A statement by the Prime Minister’s Media Office stated, “The turbine inlet air cooling systems will contribute to compensating the losses of electrical energy from the units during the summer season due to high temperatures, and will compensate for a lost capacity of 797 megawatts added to the production.”

The Prime Minister was briefed on “the details of the work and the amount of electric power supplied to the governorates, and he also praised the ministry’s cadres and staff, which completed the systems within a record period.”

Al-Sudani directed “to continue working and redouble efforts during the current summer season, and the significant rise in temperatures it is witnessing. He also directed the minister and general managers to grant department officials the necessary powers to solve problems facing the electricity system as quickly as possible.”

He stressed, “Maintenance teams are mobilized to work 24 hours a day to address the faults that occur in power transformers within residential areas and neighborhoods, and to be close to citizens and respond to their calls smoothly, away from routine and administrative complexities.”
