Munich, – Bayern Munich’s and Germany’s star defender Mats Hummels is out of Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final home clash with Real Madrid after suffering an injury in training.
Hummels tore his right ankle’s ligament in training is definitely out of his side’s clash with Real Madrid this Wednesday. He is also doubtful for the return leg on April 18. In addition to the Champions League first leg, Hummels will not feature in Saturday’s Bundesliga away match to Bayer Leverkusen. The injury forced the player to wear a special recovery boot, to prevent the injury from deteriorating.
The news is a blow to the team as they now will have to play defensive midfielder out of position since they are short on cover in the center back area. He will partner Jerome Boateng. The good news is that the pair played well in Bayern’s 4-1 victory over arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
Goal keeper Manuel Neuer might not be fit in time as well, as he is still recovering from a minor foot operation. Meanwhile German international star Thomas Mueller will be fit to face Real this week after he returned to training Sunday. (QNA)
