Cairo, Rome mull over Mediterranean challenges

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shurky and his Italian counterpart Antonio Tajani discussed the situation and joint challenges of the Mediterranean region, primarily illegal immigration, by phone on Sunday.

During the phone conversation, both sides also tackled ways and means of promoting bilateral cooperative relations in economic and investment fields, leading to the optimum utilization of both sides’ available great potential, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a press release.

The contact came in the context of close consultation and coordination between Cairo and Rome over various regional and regional issues on the basis of distinguished relations between Egypt and Italy, it added.

The Egyptian foreign minister kept his Italian counterpart posted on the latest developments of the Nigerien crisis and how to resolve it by diplomatic means in a bid to maintain Nigerien and regional security and stability, according to the release.

Both ministers, further, agreed to carry on close consultations during the coming stage and to meet together on the sidelines of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) meetings in New York in September, it added
