Ottawa, Thousands of Canadians have gathered in several major cities, including Montreal, Vancouver, Winnipeg and Quebec to protest against the Turkish incursion into northern Syria, calling for sanctions against Turkey.

Signs and banners wove through the crowd amid chants of "stop the war" and "Turkey gives life to Islamic State," at Montreal's Phillips Square Saturday afternoon, warning of the potential release of thousands of Daesh terrorist group detainees who are under guard by Kurdish-led forces.

Beritan Oerde, an organizer with the Kurdish Foundation of Quebec, in statements to the Canadian media, expressed hope that the downtown demonstration will help compel the international community to take stronger action, pointing out reports of dozens killed since tanks began to roll across the border over the past week.
