Clashes kill 3 soldiers, 3 militants in N. Pakistan – army

At least three soldiers of Pakistan army and as many militants were killed during violent clashes in Pakistan’s northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province bordering Afghanistan, said military on Sunday.

An exchange of fire took place between troops and militants in Miran Shah area of North Waziristan district in KPK, killing three soldiers of the Pakistan army, according to a statement issued by Pakistan military’s media wing Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The troops effectively engaged the militants’ location and resultantly three militants were killed while four others received injuries in the exchange of fire. Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the killed militants, said the ISPR.

The military said that sanitization of the area is being carried out to eliminate any other militants found in the area. “Armed forces of Pakistan are determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve,” the statement read.

Earlier last week, two policemen were killed when militants attacked a security forces checkpost in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province along the Pakistan-Iran border. A rise in militant attacks is witnessed in KPK and Balochistan provinces after banned outfit Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan ended its ceasefire with the government in November last year.
