Amman, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Dr. Mary Kawar and Finance Minister Dr. Ezzedine Kanakiria concluded their participation in the 2019 Spring Meetings of the World Bank (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Kawar participated as Jordan’s Governor at the World Bank and Kanakri as Jordan’s Governor at the International Monetary Fund, a press statement issued by the Ministry of Planning said Tuesday.
The statement pointed out that Kawar co-chaired with the United Kingdom and the World Bank a roundtable meeting of major donors of Jordan to follow up the implementation of the outcomes of the London Conference held at the end of last February and the subsequent steps.
Representatives of G7 member states and donors’ representatives participated in the discussion and affirmed their continued support for the sustainability of the Jordanian economy.
Qawar represented Jordan in the meetings of the Development Committee, chaired by World Bank Group President Dr. David Malpass, and met with World Bank Chief Executive Christina Georgieva, IFC Chief Operating Officer Stephanie von Friedberg and Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), Keiko Honda.
The minister thanked the World Bank for its continued financial and technical support to Jordan and its participation in supporting the Government of Jordan in implementing national reforms and priorities in a number of key areas and sectors.
She met with World Bank Group Vice President for Middle East and North Africa Ferid Belhaj and a number of Bank officials.
The statement pointed out that one of the WB senior officials emphasized the Bank’s support for the economic reform matrix in Jordan on growth and job creation for the years 2018-2022 implemented by the government and approved at the London Initiative conference in February, which will help the government to implement its reform agenda.
