Madrid, - Just hours before El Clasico, Barcelona announced Sunday that they have given hope on playing the club's suspended star Neymar in the match against Real Madrid.
The Brazilian star was sent off in Barcelona's 2-0 defeat to Malaga. His one game ban would have still enabled him to play against Madrid, but the player was hit with a further two-match ban for applauding the assistant referee sarcastically on his way off the pitch. The two-match ban meant that Neymar would miss the match.
The club appealed Neymar's two-match ban to the Spanish Sports Tribunal (TAD), something that should have frozen the ban until TAD looks into the appeal. However, the club announced today that they will not play Neymar as TAD is yet to announce that it is looking into the appeal.
Barcelona are already out of the Champions League having lost to Juventus 0-3 on aggregate. They also stand little chance of overtaking Real Madrid in La Liga as they are three points behind having played a game more. A win for Barcelona would make the race a closer affair, as the difference would be brought down to just three points. (QNA)
