Germany Pledges 4,000 Troops in Lithuania

Germany announced that it would permanently station 4,000 additional troops in Lithuania to reinforce the eastern flank of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

During his visit to the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said in a statement: “Germany is ready to permanently station a robust brigade in Lithuania,” adding that the facilities would first need to be built to accommodate the troops.

In June 2022, after the Russian-Ukrainian military operation, the German government pledged to dispatch new troops to defend Lithuania once exposed to any attack.
