The Government’s Coordinator for Human Rights (GCHR) at the Prime Ministry, Nazir Awamleh, on Thursday discussed with the Norwegian Ambassador to Amman, Espen Lindback, the government’s procedures to enhance and develop Jordan’s human rights system.
Speaking at the talks, Awamleh said these measures came in implementation of the Royal directives to the government, highlighting future plans and programs that contribute to spreading the culture and concepts of human rights at the official level.
The government, he said, has prepared a “comprehensive” national plan for human rights, and is currently working on reviewing, updating and developing this projected scheme, in addition to reviewing successes and shortcomings, and evaluating the impact of recent developments in this regard.
Lindback, for his part, praised his country’s “strong” relations with Jordan and the measures taken to develop Jordan’s human rights situation, expressing hope for further progress in this field and more joint cooperation.
Stressing the importance of the education sector, the diplomat expressed his country’s willingness to provide the necessary support in this regard, lauding students’ return to Jordan’s schools and resumption of in-class learning.
Discussions also went over the mechanism to receive and address complaints amid Covid-19 pandemic, Jordanian women’s political participation, and freedom of expression in the Kingdom, according to a GCHR office statement.
Talks, moreover, tackled jurisdictions in the human rights area, and extent of their alignment with the National Center for Human Rights and civil society institutions, as well as exchanging expertise and providing support, the statement added.
