Hamdan bin Zayed condoles Emir of Kuwait over passing of Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-SabahRAHI: EXTENSION OF J. AOUN’S MANDATE SPARED LEBANON SECURITY RISKS

KUWAIT CITY: H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region, today offered his condolences and sympathy to His Highness Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Emir of the State of Kuwait, on the passing of Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

As he was received along with his accompanying delegation by the Emir of Kuwait, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan expressed his sincere condolences and sympathy to the family of the deceased, praying to God Almighty to grant him mercy and dwell him in His paradise, and to grant the Al-Sabah family and the Kuwaiti people patience and solace.

He also wished His Highness Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah success in leading Kuwait and achieving further progress and prosperity for the Kuwaiti people.

Offering condolences alongside H.H. Sheikh Hamdan were H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs; H.H. Sheikh Omar bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charit
able and Humanitarian Foundation; H.H. Sheikh Khalid bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination; Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence; Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Frontline Heroes Office, and a number of sheikhs, ministers and senior officials.

H.H. Sheikh Hamad and his accompanying delegation had arrived in Kuwait earlier today, where they were received at the Amiri Airport by Sheikh Ahmad Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of Kuwait, and a number of Kuwaiti officials.

Maronite Patriarch Boutros al-Rai welcomed the renewal of Army Commander Gen. Joseph Aoun’s mandate for another year, a move that he said spared the Army’s unity and integrity.

‘We thank God that he spared Lebanon a security risk by having the Parliament renew the mandates of the commanders of the Army and security forces,’ al-Rai said in his Sunday sermon in Bkerke.

‘The supreme national interest was to avoid a deadly vacuum in the leadership of the Army and to stabilize the unity of the Army to avoid any destabilization in its ranks due to change,’ he added.

The patriarch also stressed the importance of backing that move with the election of a president of the Republic.

‘Let the nation’s representatives realize that the overwhelming political chaos, the violation of the constitution, and divisions cannot be removed except with the presence of a president of state,’ al-Rai said, stressing, ‘There is no state without a president with clean hands.’

He added, ‘We also wish and pray that this goodwill will
be an enlightening move, so that the parliament will convene quickly and the president will be elected.’
