Head of an Arab State Injured in a Knife Attack


Comoros President Ghazali Osman was slightly injured today, Friday, in a knife attack, according to sources close to the presidency, while the government Spokeswoman stressed that his life is not in danger after being subjected to an “assault”.

A source close to the presidency who requested anonymity stated that “President Ghazali Osman was slightly injured with a knife during a funeral ceremony”, noting that “his wounds are not serious”, and that the attackers were arrested.

Two other sources close to the presidency confirmed that Osman’s injury was minor.

Ghazali Assoumani is a politician and military man who has been President of the Comoros since 2016.

Assoumani previously served as President from 1999 to 2002 and again from 2002 to 2006.

The Comoros archipelago consists of three islands, Grande Comore, Anjouan and Mohéli, and has a population of 870,000, 45% of whom live below the poverty line, according to the World Bank.
