His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed leads UAE delegation to emergency Arab Summit in Makkah.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, led the UAE delegation to the emergency Arab summit, called for by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia, in Makkah tonight.

The summit is aimed at ensuring unifying Arab stances towards the critical circumstances the region is witnessing and their implications with regards to Arab security and stability, Sheikh Mohamed said in statements marking the emergency Arab summit.

"The complicated circumstances the Arab region is going though, primarily the besetting challenges and threats, shoulder Arab nations with the responsibility toward building up an efficient, unified Arab stance toward these challenges in a way that ensures the supreme interests and sovereignty of Arab peoples and stands up to all interferences into their internal affairs," Sheikh Mohamed said.

"The call by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz, for convening this summit reflects profound awareness of the delicacy of the current developments and mirrors the pivotal role played by Saudi Arabia in closing Arab ranks and underpinning joint Arab action amidst a highly volatile and tense regional and international environment."

He conveyed to the Saudi King the greetings of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and his utter support for Saudi King's efforts to ensure success for the summit and achievement of its objectives toward the best interests of the peoples of the region.

"The UAE has always been supportive of joint Arab action," Sheikh Mohamed said, noting that Arab causes have been an integral part of the UAE' foreign policy since the era of late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who was a staunch supporter of Arab causes and used to adopt widely recognised stances in this respect.

"Holding the Arab Summit in Makkah is of a highly symbolic implication due to the prestigious position boasted by the Holy City as a symbol for Arab unity and solidarity," said Sheikh Mohamed.

He expressed hope that the summit would mark a fresh phase for joint Arab action where there would be a more effective response toward regional and international developments, on the backdrop of a growing realisation of the ongoing threats besetting all bar none in the Arab region.

"Catalysing collective Arab action in its most comprehensive sense is the ideal way to address the current challenges," Sheikh Mohamed affirmed.

"Though the stability of the Arab world is of a paramount importance to the whole world due to the highly strategic significance this region holds at the economic, political, geographical and religious levels, guaranteeing regional security is the prime responsibility of Arabs in the first place, and herein lies the central importance of the Arab summit in Makkah in terms of its timing, venue and message," said Sheikh Mohamed.

Sheikh Mohamed is accompanied by H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs; H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; Dr. Anwar Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; Ali bin Hammad Al Shamsi, Deputy Secretary General of the Supreme National Security Council; as well as Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, UAE Ambassador to Saudi Arabia; and Mohamed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Under-Secretary of the Court of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince.
