Iraq’s oil-gas reserves are growing — official

Iraqi Oil Minister Hayyan Abdulghani on Friday said the nation’s crude oil reserves have grown by ten billion barrels and the gas reserves by eight trillion cubic feet.

The minister was speaking on sidelines of inaugurating a new project within Majnoun field in southern governorate of Basra, according to a statement released by the ministry of oil.

Abdulghani said these amounts of the fossil fuel have been added to the reserves after an agreement between the Iraqi Oil Exploration Company and Majoun field administration to conduct a 3-d survey of the locations Hartha, Al-Zubair and Mishref.

He inaugurated the project of water injection at Majnoun field at a capacity of 80,000 barrels per day. River water is employed for injection at four main reservoirs.

The minister has also laid the corner stone for the second gas separation station in the same field at a capacity of 120,000 barrels per day.

Iraq boasts the world’s fourth largest oil reserve estimated at more than 145 billion barrels.
