Italy eyes closer ties with Indo-Pacific nations – FM

Italy seeks to bolster its relations with countries in the Indo-Pacific region, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said on Wednesday, citing the region’s growing significance towards global economic development. Rome is working with its “Indo-Pacific” partners to ensure “free and open” trade and maritime navigation in the region, the foreign minister told reporters.

Citing the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as a “strategic” regional bloc, he said Rome seeks to strengthen its relations with countries and bodies there, the foreign minister underlined.
