Doha, Vassily Ivanchuk won the World Rapid Championships in Doha, Qatar after a dramatic finish that saw three players battle for the title.
Ivanchuk, along with world champion Magnus Carlsen and Alexander Grischuk were tied at the end of the 15 rounds. In those case the title is determined by a tie-break, where the average ELO of each player's opponents is calculated. Ivanchuk faced opponents with the highest average ELO and won the title as a result.
Qatar was represented in the tournament with Mohammed Nasser Al Sayed ended the tournament in 21st place with six points.
