Amman, Director General of the Palestinian Affairs Department (PAD) Rafiq Khurfan affirmed Jordan's commitment to continue its political, diplomatic and legal steps, and to strengthen the foreign policy efforts led by His Majesty King Abdullah II to support the Palestinian cause and achieve justice for the Palestinian people.
During the opening of the Conference of Supervisors of Palestinian Refugees Affairs held in Cairo on Sunday, he said Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, continues to affirm its national principles towards Palestine as Jordan's first cause and renews its support for Palestinian brethren in their just and legitimate struggle to achieve their national rights.
Jordan, he said, reaffirms the Hashemite custodianship over the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, a historical duty and responsibility that Jordan cherishes and honors to assume.
Khurfan pointed to Jordan's stand in support of the operations of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), which is an important supporter for the rights of Palestinian refugees, and underlined the importance of the agency's role on behalf of the international community.
Jordan rejects any approach to reduce UNRWA support, and does not accept any talk about canceling or reducing its services or transferring its functions to another party, he noted, adding the Kingdom calls on donor countries to continue their support and fulfill their obligations towards the UN organization so that it can carry out its duties and provide services to the Palestinian refugees.
The conference, held at the headquarters of the Arab League, saw the participation of delegations from Egypt, Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, and the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the General Secretariat of the League of the Arab States, the Arab League's Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), and the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO).
