The Judicial Council on Wednesday decided to release 3,081 prisoners held on financial cases, including 37 females. In a statement, the council said the move is part of the government's efforts to curb the COVID-19 outbreak.

The statement indicated that the release order includes those who defaulted on debts no more than JD10,000 each and that the release will last for one month only unless the person is convicted in another case.

The council assured that the move will not compromise creditors' rights.
