Leaders of US, Japan, S. Korea Agree to Bolster Deterrence Against Pyongyang’s Threats

On the sidelines of the Group of Seven (G7) Summit in Hiroshima, leaders of the United States, South Korea and Japan discussed common files including the nuclear threats posed by North Korea.

According to the presidential office in Seoul, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, US counterpart Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida agreed to upgrade the tripartite cooperation to a new level.

Spokesperson for the office added that the three leaders also agreed to boost the tripartite strategic cooperation in pursuit of bolstering deterrence against the nuclear threat posed by North Korea, in addition to enhancing the free and open international rules-based order.

Officials from South Korea, US and Japan had prioritized the summit during the past weeks as it coincided with the G7 summit.
