West Bromwich, – Liverpool stayed in command of their destiny in their fight to finish in the top 4 as they beat hosts West Bromwich 1-0.

Firmino drifted into the far post to convert Lucas’ flick on from James Milber’s free kick. The goal came in stoppage time of the first half, just as it seemed a goalless draw was the likely outcome of the first 45 minutes.

Liverpool almost added a wonderful second 11 minutes into the second period. Georginio Wijnaldum slid a nicely weighted pass into Firmino’s path and the goalscorer chipped across the West Brom box, where Milner charged forward from left-back to volley over. They were almost punished for the miss 10 minutes from time when Phillips collected a return pass from Salomon Rondon after the substitute powered towards the opposition penalty area, but Mignolet stood firm to block his effort behind.
