Liverpool, - Goals from Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho and Divock Origi earned Liverpool a 3-1 Merseyside derby victory over Everton at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
Brilliant individual efforts from Mane and Coutinho in the first half unlocked the Everton defense and gave Liverpool the lead. Divock Origi's powerful finish put the game beyond doubt for The Reds. Everton had managed to draw from a set piece scored by Mathew Pennington, who was making his first start this season. It was less than three minutes later when Coutinho swerved away from two defenders and curled the ball into the right hand corner of the Everton keeper to give Liverpool the lead again.
Both Liverpool and Everton suffered bad news in the international break. The two Merseyside teams lost arguably their respective players of the season so far. Everton right back Seamus Coleman suffered a double leg break and is likely not going to be fit by the start of next season. Meanwhile, Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana suffered a thigh injury and will miss at least four weeks of action. The game saw Mane go out injured also. It is unclear how serious the injury is but early report indicate he will miss Wednesday's game against Bournemouth.
Liverpool moved to third in the table with 59 points. Everton meanwhile remained in seventh place, nine points behind their arch rivals. (QNA)
