London, - Manchester United eased past Burnley on Sunday as Wayne Rooney scored on his return to the first team in a 2-0 win.
The captain started his first match in more than a month as star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is sidelined with a knee ligament injury. Rooney helped his side extend their unbeaten run to 23 matches. Anthony Martial gave United the lead in the 25th minute before Rooney put the game beyond doubt at the end of the first half.
United then Killed the game off in the second half as they recovered from meeting with Anderlecht in the return leg of the Europa League. United move to fifth place, and can move to fourth place if they beat arch-rivals Manchester City on Thursday. The two sides must win their Thursday showdown if they are to qualify for the Champions League this season through the league. Burnley on the other hand remain in a battle for survival, they are in 16th place five points away from relegation. (QNA)
