Amman, The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research on Saturday denied that it had cut the number of students who obtain grants and loans this year.
The ministry said in a press release that 35,257 grants and loans were offered "in accordance with the instructions and financial allocations available in the Student Support Fund's budget."
The ministry said the allocations had dropped about JD6 million due to a cabinet decision to stop deducting loan installments from students or their sponsors until they get a job and a social security number.
However, it said it will explore all options to increase the number of students benefiting from internal scholarships, grants and loans offered by the ministry for the 2019/2020 academic year.
