The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MOTC) has accredited the Qatar International Safety Centre (QISC), to be the first center of its kind to provide specialized maritime training in Qatar.
The accreditation comes within the framework of MOTC's compliance with the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers(STCW), issued by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Convention 1978, and the Center's Accreditation by the Organization.
The agreement states that Marine Authorities of the state parties are in charge of training and qualifying seafarers onboard of commercial ships, where the training programs of colleges and institutes are approved, taking into consideration the model courses of the relevant IMO, that may help in providing such courses and programs, and also assist in ensuring that the recommended detailed educational goals are met, in addition to other conditions and requirements, such as the quality and efficiency of lecturers.
It is worth pointing that the accreditation of QISC came after MOTC represented by the Planning and Maritime Transport Licenses Department, had made sure that the center obliged to the conditions and requirements stated within the agreement, and implemented, in addition to reviewing and approving the training subjects to ensure that the trainees obtain the deserved qualification stated in the agreement, to achieve the ultimate goal of Qatar's commitment of all the agreements and standards implemented by IMO, that is protecting the maritime safety and the marine environment, beings, and possessions in the seas.
