MP for Maysan submits an appeal against the constitutionality of the ratification of the navigation agreement in Khor Abdullah

Member of the Parliamentary Legal Committee, Independent MP from Maysan Governorate, “Raed Hamdan Al-Maliki,” announced that he had submitted an appeal before the Federal Court to the constitutionality of the law ratifying the navigation agreement in Khor Abdullah between Iraq and Kuwait.

The MP said in a statement: “The Federal Court registered the case submitted with the number (194 / federal / 2023) and received the statement of claim,” indicating that the defendant will later inform the Speaker of the House of Representatives of it and set a date for consideration.

He added: “The appeal was based on the fact that the provisions of the agreement signed by the government and ratified by Parliament in 2013 included an indirect delineation of the maritime borders, and involved Kuwait in what it does not have, the fact that Khor Abdullah belongs to Iraq, and it also included a greater concession than what was signed on Iraq by virtue of a decision.” Security Council 833 of 1993, and that this contradicts the provisions of the constitution that prevent the waiver of any part of the sovereignty of Iraq and obliges the federal authorities to preserve the integrity of Iraq’s lands, waters and wealth.”
