OIC welcomes humanitarian truce in Sudan

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed a 24-hour humanitarian truce in Sudan as of (6:00 p.m.) Tuesday evening to ensure the safe passage of civilians and diplomatic missions, and the evacuation of the wounded and stranded. In a statement, OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha lauded the agreement of the parties on the truce, calling for making further efforts to reach an immediate ceasefire deal, avoid escalation, protect civilians and diplomatic missions, and allow humanitarian access.

Taha urged a prolonged truce as Eid Al-Fitr approaches, indicating that it is a scared Islamic ritual related to peace and tolerance.

He stressed the OIC’s readiness to harness all its potential to back humanitarian efforts and resume dialogue among the Sudanese parties.
