Parliament investigates member after controversial remarks

The Lower House of Parliament’s Legal Committee is investigating Deputy Osamah al-Ajarmeh for remarks he made during a heated house session last Monday over a nationwide several-hour power blackout the Kingdom suffered on Friday.

House Speaker Abdulmunim Odat said Wednesday that a memorandum signed by lawmakers demanded an “investigation into Al-Ajarmeh’s remarks against the house and his fellow lawmakers”, adding that the issue is now in the hands of the legal committee which will investigate the matter and report to the house speakership accordingly.

Odat stressed that the house has endeavored, since the start of its first regular session, to build a ground of mutual respect between its members and to guarantee the freedom to express all opinions, regardless of their differences, within the limits of the chamber’s bylaw, rejecting any insult or abuse of the house’s prestige or harm to the dignity of any fellow member.
