Public Works minister discusses enhancing cooperation in construction sector in Baghdad

Minister of Public Works and Housing, Yahya Kisbi and the accompanying delegation on Tuesday evening held a meeting with President of the Arab and Iraqi Contractors Unions, Ali Al-Sanafi and a group of Iraqi contractors

The meeting, held in Baghdad, discussed strengthening cooperation in the housing, construction and contracting sector.

Kisbi said Jordan seeks to enhance prospects of cooperation and partnership with Iraq in all fields, especially in the field of housing, construction and contracting.

“Jordan looks forward to involve the private sector and Jordanian companies in the reconstruction of Iraq and the establishment of development projects in line with the aspirations of the leaderships of the two brotherly countries,” Kisbi added.

He pointed out that the facilities granted by the Iraqi government will contribute to encouraging the Jordanian contractor and overcoming obstacles facing Jordanian contracting companies, which will positively reflect on the economy of both countries and services provided to citizens.

“As the sponsor of the housing, construction and contracting sector and the Minister of Public Works and Housing in Jordan, we will encourage Jordanian companies specialized in contracting to operate in the brotherly Iraq,” Kisbi said.

For his part, President of the Jordanian Construction Contractors Association, Ahmed Al-Yacoub, lauded the government’s efforts, represented by the Ministry of Works to support the contracting sector in Jordan and to positively contribute to the status of contracting companies at the international level.

He stressed that the contracting and construction sector is receiving great attention more than ever from the government, due to its understanding of the importance of the sector and what it offers to a number of sectors that support it, indicating that the interest was reflected on the ground by motivating it to invest locally and abroad because of the distinguished status of the Jordanian contractor.

Al-Sanafi said meetings and agreements between the two brotherly countries will be reflected on the ground to create a real partnership for the reconstruction of Iraq.

He valued the interest of the two countries’ governments and measures taken to support the private sector after the difficult economic repercussions experienced by all economic sectors and to contribute to supporting the economy of the two brotherly countries, stressing that the meetings held today by the Jordanian delegation in Baghdad are very fruitful and resulted in real partnerships.
