Doha, – Under the patronage of HE the Chairperson of Qatar Museums Board of Trustees Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Qatar Museums opened its first international exhibition “The Pearls, Treasures from the Seas and the Rivers”, which kicked off at the National Museum of China last night.
The exhibition is held in cooperation between Qatar Museums, and the Chinese Ministry of Culture within the Qatar-China 2016 Year of Culture, which aims to promote the cultural, historic and diplomatic relations between the two countries.
This is the first time that the National Museum of China hosted an international exhibition that highlighted the history, legends, myths about pearls and reviewed the world’s view of the Qatari-Chinese pearl.
The exhibition showcases the history of pearls over the past 2,000 years, from the Roman period until the 21st century, in six parts: The Natural History of Pearls, Pearls in the Arabian Gulf, Pearls in History, Natural Freshwater Pearls, Pioneers of the Cultured Pearl and Cultivating Pearls the Chinese Way.
