Doha, Al Shahaniya signed Igor Stimac as their new first team coach until the end of the season, the club said today.
Stimac replaces outgoing Fernando, who was sacked after the team lose 0-10 to Lekhwiya in the 13th round of Qatar Stars League. The new coach was a former international center back for Croatia. He represented the Croatia national team 53 times, playing at Euro 1996 and at the 1998 World Cup in France, where Croatia f won bronze.
As a manager he was in charge of the Croatian national team from 2012 to 2013. He also had a spell in charge of Hajduk Split, where he started his playing career.
