Under the headline “Brutal War”, Qatari daily Al-Watan said the people of the Gaza Strip lost their relatives and their material possessions, including homes, farms, shops and vehicles in the brutal war that the Israeli occupation has been waging for six months; and after 185 days of the genocidal war, they became displaced in tents lacking the basic necessities of human life.

Al-Watan referred to the statements of the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Adequate Housing Balakrishnan Rajagopal who confirmed that 70% of homes were destroyed in the Israeli war on Gaza, and that what is happening amounts to a genocide.

The paper also pointed to the statement of the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres that two million people in the Gaza Strip lack security and are trying to protect themselves from hunger, disease and continuous Israeli bombing. “When I hear the words ‘human security’, I think about the two million humans in Gaza who have no security at all, desperately seeking protection from hunger, diseas
e, and relentless Israeli bombardment,” Guterres said.

Three important resolutions were issued by the International Court of Justice, the Security Council, and the United Nations Human Rights Council, calling for cessation of this brutal war and the rapid entry of humanitarian aid. However, none of these resolutions received any attention from the Israeli government, which even responded by bombing and targeting relief workers, the paper said.

Commenting on another topic, English daily The Peninsula said that Qatar marks the World Health Day on April 7 every year with the rest of the world, highlighting its commitment to ensuring public health.

In its editorial titled “Ensuring the Right to Health”, The Peninsula said that Qatar puts the health of its entire community on top of its priorities. The countrys healthcare system is marked by its focus on the quality of services provided to people and meeting their needs in the best possible way. It has developed a world-class healthcare system and provides comp
rehensive health coverage for all community members.

The paper highlighted the significant development in the healthcare system to meet the rising populations healthcare needs. There has been a significant expansion in health facilities and infrastructure, competent workforce, and intensified focus on developing health services and technologies, while adhering to the highest standards of quality.

The paper noted that Qatar recorded one of the lowest mortality rates during the COVID-19 pandemic as a result of robust healthcare system and cooperation from all sectors. The countrys preparedness to meet healthcare needs contributed to the success of major sporting events, notably the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and the Asian Cup Qatar 2023, which are considered among the healthiest sporting tournaments, and ents created a lasting legacy for health and sports.

Following the Health in All Policies approach adopted by the Ministry of Public Health as part of the Second National Health Strategy, joint efforts were m
ade by all the state sectors and the community to promote health and equity for all residents. Adopting this approach helped Qatar become the first country in the world to have all its municipalities awarded the Healthy City title by the World Health Organization, The Peninsula said.
