Madrid, – Karim Benzema, Isco and Nacho scored as an understrength Real Madrid powered past Alaves, winning 3-0 at Santiago Bernabeu.
In-form striker Benzema linked up with Dani Carvajal to score his fourth goal in as many league games just after the half-hour mark. It was the 50th consecutive match that Real Madrid have scored.
Alaves wasted numerous good chances for an equalizer in the second half and it looked like the Madrid striker’s goal would ultimately prove to be the winner. However a late strike from reportedly disillusioned midfielder Isco and a header from Real Madrid academy graduate Nacho sealed a fourth consecutive league win for Zinedine Zidane’s men.
The hosts were short of top form in their first game after the international break, with Sergio Ramos, Marcelo, Keylor Navas and James Rodriguez all rested, while Casemiro was suspended.
The win took Spain’s royal club to 68 points at the top of the league. They are five points ahead of Barcelona with an equal number of games played by each. Barcelona however are going to meet Granada away later today. (QNA)
