The General Authority of Customs and the Ministry of Municipalities and Environment, represented by the executive management of the CITES Convention seized and confiscated a shipment weighing 310 kilograms of ivory while crossing Hamad International Airport.
The customs authorities of Hamad International Airport discovered the seized shipment coming from one of the African countries and crossing in transit to its final destination in one of the Asian countries. The executive management of the CITES Convention in the State of Qatar has been notified with this shipment and it confirmed that it is subject to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.
Mr. Muhammad Mubarak Al-Mirri, Head of the Wildlife Section of the Department of Protection and Wildlife, declared that a detailed report supported by pictures shall be developed on the seized shipment and the Secretariat of the CITES Agreement based in Geneva, Switzerland shall be notified accordingly as a preliminary step to taking the required procedures as per the law.
Such seizure has been effected within the framework of cooperation and coordination between the executive authorities in the State of Qatar on the implementation of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
