Doha, Under the patronage of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, HE President of Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani opened Saturday at the Cultural Village (Katara) the first edition of the World Beach Games Qatar 2019.
The opening ceremony was attended by Acting President of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) Robin Mitchell and a lineup of Their Excellences of ministers, Heads of National Olympic Committees and guests of the Games.
The opening ceremony started with a presentation film about the Games then the entry of participants. Following that HE QOC Secretary-General, Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain Vice-President and General-Director of the ANOC World Beach Games Qatar 2019 delivered the speech of the organizing committee, in which he greeted the guests and participants.
HE Al Buenain expressed pride at hosting the first edition of the games, pointing that such sports events contribute to the rapprochement between nations and promote understanding between them to serve peace and the peoples of the world.
He stressed that the State of Qatar attaches great importance to sports and athletes, as well as the development of sports infrastructure, thanks to the support and directives of wise leadership of the State. He pointed out that sport is one of the active factors in the pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030.
Concluding his speech, Al Buenain extended thanks the Association of National Olympic Committees for their trust and cooperation, and to all those who contributed to the organization of this sporting event. He also extended thanks and appreciation to the volunteers and wished the participating delegations success.
Acting President of ANOC Robin Mitchell delivered a speech where he expressed happiness at holding the first edition of the World Beach Games in the State of Qatar, noting the warm welcome accorded to the committees and delegations participating in tournament.
Qatari Handball Referee Ali Al Yazeedi took the oath for the referees, and triathlon athlete Abdullah Al Kaabi took the oath for the players. The opening ceremony also included an operetta entitled Darkum Qatar (Welcome Home in Qatar). (QNA)
