The Oman Airports Management Company (OAMC) has attracted seven bidders for its duty free and luxury retail concession, and eight for the food and beverage contract at the new Muscat International Airport.
The new airport is planned to open in 2017 with an eventual capacity for 36mn passengers.
As reported by Muscat Daily on June 30, OAMC issued a Request for Qualification (RfQ) for interested parties to participate in the Request for Proposal (RfP) for both duty free and luxury retail and food and beverage packages in the new facility.
For duty free and luxury retail, the qualified bidders include Aer Rianta International Middle East, ATA Duty Free, DFS, Dufry, King Power Group (Hong Kong), LagardAÂ¨re Services SAS and Shilla Duty Free. For the food and beverage package, the qualified bidders are Airest-LagardAÂ¨re Services SAS, BTA, Gourmet Foods – Travel Foods Services and Mustafa Sultan Enterprises, HMS Host – Autogrill Middle East, Jawad International Group, MMI (Maritime and Mercantile International), Newrest WACASCO and SSP Middle East.

The companies that have expressed their interest reaffirm the positioning of Muscat International Airport as a premium destination and we look forward to evaluating the bids at the end of the year.
Additional RfPs for specialty retail, passenger financial services, CIP lounge and the like will also be released starting from this September until March 2016. We look forward to engaging with the market and helping to establish Muscat International Airport as a destination of choice.
At stake are ten-year contracts for each of the packages above, with over 18,000sq m of commercial space available in the terminal. The duty free and luxury retail package will offer the successful bidder an area of 5,320sq m to provide core duty free products in addition to luxury fashion and accessories, watches, toys and gourmet foods and confectionery. Food and Drinks offers 3,560sq m of space to the winner.
