Doha, - Angelique Kerber crashed out of the second round of the Qatar Total Open in the shock of the tournament so far, losing 4-6, 6-0, 4-6 to Russia's Daria Kasatkina.
Former World No.1 and current no. 2 couldn't capitalize on as many as six break points in the first set. Kasatkina capitalized on Kerber's wastefulness and took the group 6-4. The German avenged her first set loss and didn't allow her opponent a sniff, winning 6-0 in the second. With Kerber looking set to brush off Kasatkina, the 19 year-old roared back and won the set and match with an impressive display.
Kasatkina is still starting out her career, having made her Grand Slam debut in 2015. She will be delighted to hold her own against an established champion such as Kerber. Kasatkina will meet Puerto Rico's Monica Puig in the quarter-finals. (QNA)
