Berlin- Maria Sharapova reached Friday the semi-final of the Stuttgart Open after beating Estonia’s Anett Kontaveit of Estonia 6-3, 6-4.

Sharapova has not played an official match since losing to Serena Williams in the semi-finals of the 2016 Australian Open. She serve a 15-month ban after failing a drug test in the same competition. Her ban ended just last Wednesday, when she played her first game at the Stuttgart Open. The ban also meant that Sharapova lost her ranking and wasn’t eligible to feature in Stuttgart, but she received an invitation on a wild card and the Russian made the most of it, reaching the semi-final.

She won the competition three consecutive times in 2012 through 2014. Sharapova also only lost one match in the Stuttgart Open, to Angelique Kerber in the first round of the 2015 edition.
