The head of the Iraqi Red Crescent Society called on the Islamic Committee of the International Crescent to take a firm stance on the repercussions of burning the Holy Quran, as a member of the Islamic Committee of the International Crescent.

Yassin Al-Mamouri said in a statement, “The Iraqi Red Crescent Society, based on its humanitarian dimension as a humanitarian organization, applies the provisions of international humanitarian law, which calls for respect for human dignity, and considers attacking places of worship a crime against humanity.”

He added, “What an extremist did of burning a copy of the Holy Qur’an is a clear violation of the provisions of this law and a call for violence and extremism and an unjustified provocation to the feelings of Muslims all over the world.”

Al-Mamouri stated, “Many of the provisions of the current international law are derived from the Holy Qur’an, and the Qur’an is a major source for the provisions of contemporary international law. Based on all these considerations, the Iraqi Red Crescent Society calls on the Islamic Committee of the International Crescent, which will hold a meeting from 23-25 of this month to take a unified and firm position on this attack./ End
