Think-Tanks Forum of Islamic countries to be held on March 06 (Business Recorder (Pakistan))

Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed has announced that the maiden twoday ‘ThinkTanks Forum of the Islamic Countries’ will be held between March 78, in the capital, which is being organised by the PakistanChina Institute, the Turkish Asian Centre for Strategic Studies, the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung and Pakistan’s Senate Committee on Defence.
The theme of this year’s forum is ‘Addressing MultiDimensional Security Challenges in the Islamic Countries’ that will focus on terrorism, radicalisation and cyber security, defence cooperation, politics and economy, dialogue among Muslims to promote unity.
The ninemember forum having its secretariat in Istanbul is a biannual gathering of representatives of the think tanks from Muslim countries, and is hosted by TASAM, a thinktank based in Istanbul. The nine members are from Muslim countries, where Senator Mushahid Hussain represents Pakistan. Other members represent Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iran, Bangladesh, Azerbaijan, Egypt, Malaysia and Sudan.
In his speech to a conference, the senator said the forum was expected to pull over 50 top intellectuals, opinion leaders from the OIC member and observer countries, and heads of thinktanks from 30 Muslim countries.
“With the active cooperation of our German partner KAS in this important event, Germany’s growing role as a bridge between the West and the East, between cultures, civilisations and religions, between Europe and Asia/the Arab World, will be reinforced,” the senator said.
“This is the most prestigious nongovernmental forum of its kind, affording a platform to the best and most prominent members of the international intellectual community, to debate issues of most pertinent concern to Muslim countries.”
President Mamnoon Hussain has already accepted the invitation to address the forum on the first day with Advisor to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz speaking at the opening ceremony on the morning of the second day. Senate Chairman Senator Nayyar Hussain Bokhari will make his speech on March 8.
