Trade minister, Syrian delegation talk joint economic cooperation

Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Maha Ali, stressed the importance of joint Jordanian-Syrian action to enhance economic cooperation, especially in trade and investment fields, to reach understandings that achieve interests of the two countries’ private sectors.

Speaking at a meeting on Wednesday, with a delegation representing the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce (FSCC), the minister was briefed on the “positive” outcomes of talks held remotely with Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Mohammad Samer al-Khalil last Thursday, which focused on developing a preliminary vision to discuss mechanisms of Jordanian -Syrian economic cooperation in various fields and update the joint action plan drawn up in March 2020.

Chairman of Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC), Nael Kabariti, who attended the talks, said Jordanian and Syrian trade sector are making “unrelenting” efforts to activate inter-trade, increase economic cooperation frameworks to serve common interests of the two countries’ private sectors , and address difficulties triggered by Covid-19 pandemic and its economic repercussions.

The delegation, for their part, affirmed their readiness to work with the Jordanian private sector to increase trade and investment cooperation, especially at this stage, which involves many challenges and difficulties resulting from high freight rates.

To address inter-trade challenges, the delegation presented proposals to increase economic cooperation, calling on removing difficulties facing joint trade between the two countries.
