SHARM EL SHEIKH, Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Executive Director of the UAE Independent Climate Change Accelerators (UICCA), today signed a Memorandum of Understaning (MoU) with the Centre of Multilateral Negotiations (CEMUNE), at the UAE pavilion in COP27.
The two respective parties have united with the objective of cooperating on providing local and regional insights, developing strategic governmental relationships, delivering tailored industry workshops and driving policy-process exercises.
Sheikha Shamma said, “It’s also my utmost pleasure to sign this mutually beneficial MoU in the UAE Pavilion at COP27, during such a momentous occasion for the future of climate change. UICCA strives to identify like-minded and innovative partners who can support the acceleration towards a green economy, which is imperative for us to achieve the UAE’s net-zero and climate agenda.
“As an independent accelerator, the UICCA is committed to being a pioneer in facilitating public-private discourses, along with academia, NGOs, and international organisations. UICCA aims to be a leading catalyst in providing actions which will drive us towards Net Zero by 2050. We also work to further cement the UAE’s position as a global leader in sustainability in the build-up towards COP28 in the UAE and beyond.”
Commenting on the signing, Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and UAE Special Envoy for Climate Change, stated, “I welcome this collaboration between CEMUNE and UICCA. Partnerships like this are going to be vital to our ability to accelerate climate action, in the lead up to COP28 and during this decisive decade. I wish Sheikha Shamma every success in her new role on the board of CEMUNE as she continues to be a leading voice for climate progress, both in the Middle East and across the world.”
